Limited Edition

Pro skater Mark Gonzales was good enough to collaborate with The Skateboard Market and create artwork for these limited edition decks for the grand opening of their new shop. In turn, shop owner Eric Likewise was good enough to send one of them my way. Original, hand numbered art from the Gonz. Am I going to skate it? Negative. That sucker's going on the wall in my office just above Cyber Spawn

Know Your Fonts

In the mood for some font geekery? Stop by Ilovetypography.com and try out the Rather Difficult Font Game. It's actually pretty tough. Not enough font fun for you? Then take the Helvetica or Arial Test and see if you know the difference between Helvetica and the rip-off artist, Arial. Send screenshots of your scores to frank@indylabdesign.com so I can post them on the blog!

Obama's on a Mac!

While I will strive to keep the blog politically neutral, I couldn't resist noting that Obama will be ridding the world of famine, disease, pestilence and war all from the clean and intuitive interface of a Macintosh. Apparently Biden is on board as well. Looks like he's on an Air. Nice work guys. You're off to a good start.

Its not heavy, it's a new music blog.

I'm a music geek. And I've often lamented that with the internet and digital downloads, one doesn't get the opportunity to really get to know their favorite groups or their work any more. We're simply bombarded with too much information and we bounce from one group to the next while our attention spans continue to shrink. But at the same time, I love a good source for new music. And I found one the other day. The Heavy Edition is a weekly blog that features 9 new artists each week and then links to their work. The design is nice and clean too, and that is always a good thing. I've found some new stuff from groups that I already know and I've been turned on to some new groups too! I guess too much information can be a good thing—sometimes.

Good stuff from Colorado

If you've been around me for more than a five minute stretch, you know I used to live in Colorado. And in all likelihood, you've heard me rave about how great it was to live there (and then subsequently p & m about not being there any longer). I'm still in touch with some of my friends from the Denver Post and here's some of the latest and greatest that they've cranked out. A nice full page ad for Colorado Ski Country from my old boss, The Crow Killer, Mark Holly and this year's winning logo entry for Ride The Rockies from James Gonzales. Big ups.

Holly Days

So, my Aunt Helen has put together a CD for the Holiday season. I've done some design work for her in the past and she called me up and asked if I could put together a quick type treatment for the cover. "You bet!" I said. "When do you need it by?" "Yesterday." was her answer. So, we got cracking. I came up with a couple of different options, and a couple of hours later we had something we both liked. We had a rubber stamp made for the type and she stamped a whole lot of CD covers. Oh, the CD case is made from 100% recycled material. Cool.
